Col. Clay Masonic Lodge #159 F&AM

Brethren all,

As of this writing, I realize we have 8 months left in this Masonic year.  Just a few weeks ago we celebrated the teachings, trial, death, raising and the greatest commandments He gave to all of us: LOVE GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, and  LOVE ONE ANOTHER.  Following these two great commandments is not hard, but I think in this day and age it can sure be trying, but it’s not inconceivable.

It’s now May  and I am giving notice to my committees that on Saturday, May 24 the Lodge will place flags on veterans graves at Linden Grove Cemetery to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in battle and those who came home to live a good life.  Even though a lot of the head stones are worn, you can still make out the square and compass either raised or chiseled in the markers.  We will meet at the caretaker’s garage about 8:30 for coffee and donuts, followed by a flag raising ceremony and then start placing the flags.  We usually place about 400 flags.  It usually takes a couple of hours.  Afterwards, some brothers go to eat as groups at a place they choose.  To all committee men who I called for this year, please take notice, govern yourselves accordingly and be present to participate.  All brothers who are available are urged to attend and show respect to those who have gone ahead of us.  Also remember the following Saturday, May 31st, we need brothers to collect, clean and store the flags for Veterans Day in November.  I won't be able to attend the pickup, as I am committed to a Meeting In Louisville that day.  However, I'm sure the work will be done with neatness and dispatch!!!!!

Don’t forget the monthly dinner at Pepper’s Mexican Grill in Independence on May 17th at 5:00.

To all I wish a good month, happy celebrations, and a Blessed Remembrance of Mothers Day.

Fraternally,

William O. Smith, Jr., P.M.
