Col. Clay Masonic Lodge #159 F&AM
Brethren,
Slowly, this Masonic year is coming to a close. The corps of new officers will soon begin their endeavors
to keep the lodge running smoothly. We have a good corps of officers for the next three years in our top three chairs, but we need more men to fill chairs and younger bodies to carry on the work. I hate to think about the lodge going
defunct (no longer in business) or even bring the subject up but time moves on and we all know
that the longer we wait, the quicker that rotten time will get here. So, think about it and please
let’s do something to keep the lodge going.
Five members and one lady showed up and one lady showed up for the picnic. The food was plentiful
and good. I’m enjoying this cooler weather and wish it would stay like this the whole year, but
nature says it will not be so. The weather wasn’t too hot, with a nice breeze most of the afternoon.
We even treated a young man who was playing basketball at the courts as a guest and asked him
to partake of the food. It was good on our part. We had a nice visit with him.
Congrats to Bro. Steve Chapman for reaching 50 Years and his Gold Pin and Dues Card.
My Brothers, take a moment and think of how Masonry has benefitted you in your life: business,
friendships, acknowledgements, activities, and meeting new brothers when traveling. Or have all
your lessons and time been spent to gain a space in your wallet for a dues card that may be pulled
out to change when a new year starts? Or a spot in the dresser drawer for the ring your loved ones
gave you, or presented by a family member who was your father, uncle, brother or even a group of
men you work with who you didn’t know were Masons? Time moves on, we forget about things,
and other things take a bigger part of our time. But once in a while a visit to lodge helps to remind
us of the reasons we joined. Hope to see you in lodge soon!
Fraternally,
William O. Smith, Jr., P.M., Master
